Ever since the brand new DVDs came out, the production of VHS has been slowed to a grinding halt. The slightly more compact design of DVDs trumps the bulk of a VHS cassette tape by far and the quality of whatever is recorded on the DVD is going to last much longer than on the VHS.

Since then however, they have created technologies to convert VHS to DVD and they have been a hit for a short time. People use these converters to preserve their old VHS movies that are so old you can't find them anywhere anymore, into DVDs. This was a good idea to produce this converting technology, but its lifespan was doomed to be very short, because once everyone had converted all their VHS recordings onto a DVD, they had no use for the technology anymore.
